So we went on to have the Church service and the whole big reception etc. Last week I had to apply to the department of home affairs in South Africa for our “unabridged marriage certificate” and according to them we’re not even married. 😦 What a disaster, it seems our documents have gone missing at the home affairs department and now our poor family back home to run around and look into this matter for us. It’s a pretty urgent deal because when I leave work I’ll have a small window of time to transfer my residency onto my HUSBAND’S residency and to do that I will need these papers otherwise I have to leave the country… brilliant, pregnant and exiled!

They even have a home affairs is a joke facebook page:

A great way for two countries to get to know one another would be to read each others newspapers. So here you go, 4 headlines from each. Your sneak peek into each others worlds.

Kuwait – (Arabtimes)

– Young couple caught making love in another person’s backyard

– Ex-wife insults man, a case has been opened and the woman has been called for investigation

– Stripper surprises motorists,

– Brother of murdered teen back, vows to take revenge, shave head and mustache

South Africa (News24)

– The Bloemfontein grade 12 girl who committed suicide during the December holidays, achieved a distinction for one of her subjects.

– The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has again called for a complete ban on fireworks and explosive devices because the noise is traumatizing for animals.

– A security guard at the gate of a Midrand security estate allegedly threatened a resident who had confronted him about his behavior.

– President Jacob Zuma has a tough message for townships schools wanting to improve their results: Learn from “old white schools” about discipline.

Last year’s highlight city for me would have been Cape Town. My favorite part of course being the wine farms. We went on so many little road trips to places like;

Franschhoek,

Fairview,

Groot Constantia etc.

It was a great way to spend the slightly rainy days and see the country side. A definite must do for anyone thinking about going to SA. It’s easy enough to rent a car at the airport along with the satellite navigation system and you’re good to go. And yes, it’s safe people.

Rock on SA!

I’ve decided to take the blog down a new avenue. The biggest thing I have noticed about living in Kuwait and being South African is that the two countries know very little about each other. SA thinks I live in a war zone and the people of Kuwait wonder how I could have survived Johannesburg. So I think it’s time for a little education. And that is where I’m taking pretty point of view. Share a little of SA with Kuwait and share a little of Kuwait with the people of SA. Please feel free to contribute to the content of this blog for the greater good of two very different nations.

Let start with Kuwait:

It’s smaller than Lesotho, with a population of about 2,889,042 peeps, 70% of which are expats.

Currency – KD (Kuwaiti Dinar) Currently R25.5 will buy you 1KD. And this is with a strong Rand. When the Rand is weak you’re looking at R40 to 1KD

South Africa:

Pretty big land mass with 3 sides on the ocean’s edge and we have the little country of Lesotho inside our own space. Now it’s pronounced ‘La-s00-too’ NOT ‘Le-so-tho’ as most Americans would say. We have a population of about 49,320,000 peeps.

Oh and for those South African’s out there who think that Kuwait is in Dubai, it’s not, it’s another hour and a half flight north. And for the Kuwaitis who think that South Africa is a continent, that would be South America you’re thinking of. South Africa is the actual name of the country!

This blog is very much needed.

Zapiro, keep doing what you’re doing.

What I would have given to have made it to Long Street Friday night. What an awesome party, in an awesome street in an awesome city. I’m talking about the Soccer (sorry – Football) world cup group draw that took place. With celebrities littering the street on the beautiful Cape Town evening. Man, I’m so jealous. And with our very own stars in the headlines, it was a truly proudly South African event. One that has kicked the football fever into hypo-drive.

I wonder if the rest of the world has become used to the sound of the vuvuzela yet? As much as some people would like to complain about it, I’m willing to bet that every foreign tourist to the country will leave with one by the end of their trip.

So for those who are actually interested in how the groups turned out, I haven’t forgotten about you.

something to add?
