A big change for me is my expanding tummy and my shrinking wardrobe. I have kinda been out to look at some store which stock pregnancy clothing (luckily I’m still fitting into my old clothes but just, and not for long I don’t think) I am really going to need to buy some new tops at least and skirts and probably a bigger swimsuit too. Anyway from what I’ve seen around I must say I’m not all that impressed. It’s kinda like as soon as you become pregnant you somehow stop having a sense of style… people just expect you to look “pregnant” which more often than not means wearing over sized clothes with terrible prints which do more harm than good in anyone’s books. So while I’m still outgrowing my clothes and have not yet found suitable replacements, I’m starting to worry about what my pregnant self “looks” like. Trying on a few things lately I look more like a fat housekeeper than a pregnant mum to be. The search continues… there has got to be something more out there….
As week 14 rolls around I am still pretty tired in the afternoons (thank goodness for those afternoon naps) but I hear this should ease up soon. I also went to my first “moms ‘n tots” morning with the BLS moms today. At first it was quiet intimidating seeing all those kiddies running around. Some crying, some playing, some sleeping and the others tripping over each other. It was a little scary to say the least but once I got over the initial shock of “that’s going to be you one of these days” I had a cup of decaf coffee and settled in to my new reality
Which really is going to be life changing and exciting
From high up career woman to mom. Awesome change ahead.
As week 13 rolls in I must say one good thing I’ve noticed is that I am not getting up to pee twice a night anymore. If I’m lucky by next week I’ll be sleeping solidly again, YAY!! On another note my tummy has started to expand and greet the world as a separate being. We had our doctors appointment yesterday and it was so cute to see the little monkey stretching and squirming inside. Quiet happy and on his/her own little mission growing quiet nicely inside
And it’s always a relief to hear a strong little heart beat too.
Well this would be the reason I have been so quiet over the past few days. I have been woman down. The thing with being pregnant is that when you get sick you actually can’t take any medicine to make you feel better. These flu medicines can be harmful to the baby. So basically you have to grit your teeth and fight through it no matter how long it takes and no matter how terrible you may feel. The best I can do is take a Panadol for the headaches, a vitamin c effervescent to help the immune system and a strep-sol to help with the sore throat.
And all I feel like for dinner – carrots, avocado pear, Chocos breakfast cereal. Ok no not all mixed together but one at a time spread out over the course of my evening. After a long day of shooting, followed by grocery shopping and walking the dog it’s the best I could come up with… sad I know.
Anyway onto week 12 of being pregnant in Kuwait this is what the little monkey looks like this week.
And feeling good so far, still tired in the early evenings, not really nauseous anymore which is awesome… still getting slight dizzy spells from time to time, but all in all baby seems to be behaving really well so I think I’m pretty lucky so far… makes me think I’m having a boy
I think girls would be more high maintenance for some reason. Either way we’ll find out in mid May what we’re blessed with. A pink one or a blue one…
Listening to the Rolling Stones – “Beast of Burden” catching up on emails counting down the days till I’m “self-employed” 3 days to go!!
All right fine so I’m pregnant in Kuwait. It’s our first baby and we’re miles and miles away from friends and family. We are not from a culture where we have 3 nannies and 2 house keepers to run after the baby for us. We’re from a culture where you pretty much do everything yourself and if you’re lucky you can have a part-time house keeper to help you clean the house while mom looks after baby and works on the side. So usually with friends and family by your side this is very much doable as you have plenty of help and advice on hand and granny lives down the street so if you want an afternoon “off” you can drop your little peach-pie off with her and have yourself a little “me time”.
Doing this for the first time so far away from your comfort zone, in a foreign country, is going to be a little challenging. And yes a bit scary too. I know, I know… a lot of people here do it so if they can do it so can I… right?
Just to update you all… I am 11 weeks along now. Little monkey will make his or her great arrival in mid October. October babies ROCK!! So far I’ve had slight nausea (but no vomiting thank goodness), dizzy spells that come and go… oh and before, where i could easily slip in 7 cups of tea into my daily routine I can’t even stomach one. Oh, and chocolate milk is my new best friend. Pretty easy-going so far touch wood.
Oh, and my mom passed away 8 months ago so if there are any moms out there who can offer up good advice, I’m all ears.
This is what the little guy/girl looks like at 11 weeks…
