From the mouth of this crazy 45 year old man named Gerald Coniel…

“From Cairo to Cape Town….

12 000 km, 10 countries, 96 days of cycling averaging 130 km each. 22 resting days. A total of 120 days to cross the continent and race with 40 over competitors.

This adventure race will challenge my body and mind like no other, crossing some of the most exotic places on earth, pedaling pass places like Kilimanjaro, Victoria falls, lake Malawi…

This race will also be about meeting people, sharing their lives, their food, their culture.

Their journey began on January 26, 2010 from Cairo. You can follow their daily blog entries by clicking here and go with them on their adventure as they make their way to the beautiful city of Cape Town.

This race is to raise funds and awareness to get more bicycles to people to help distribute medicine to countries that need it. One bicycle can bring medicine to 100 people a day.

UPDATE: I just found out that a friend of mine is actually in the race right now, they road into Sudan this morning. Good luck Ted, we’re with you all the way!

So the world cup is in June/July this year and we happen to have two tickets to the finals… yeah baby!!!! Even though the final will be in JHB here are a few pics above of the stadium in Cape Town – SA’s most beautiful city. If anyone is heading down south for the big games, drop me a mail and I’ll give you all the advice and tips i can :)

Last year’s highlight city for me would have been Cape Town. My favorite part of course being the wine farms. We went on so many little road trips to places like;

Franschhoek,

Fairview,

Groot Constantia etc.

It was a great way to spend the slightly rainy days and see the country side. A definite must do for anyone thinking about going to SA. It’s easy enough to rent a car at the airport along with the satellite navigation system and you’re good to go. And yes, it’s safe people.

Rock on SA!

When searching for Cape Town accommodation I never thought I’d come across American Trailer Park designs, modernized in a contemporary roof top manner. But here it is. On the rooftop of the Granddaddy hotel in Long street you will find 7 Penthouse Trailers.

Each one of the trailers has been designed by a different Capetonian designer according to their creative spark. Each trailer is fully air-conditioned, with running hot and cold water, coupled with a full mini-bar, satellite TV and room-service. If only I had known about this place in September! But if anyone is heading to Cape Town for the football world cup, it’s worth looking at.

I particularly like how much details the designers go into.
