I heard about this Beijing-based artist, Liu Bolin who exhibits his art in the form of him painting himself to blend in with his environment. Having an art background, I had to investigate further. Seems this 36 yr old “chameleon” has found the perfect way to blend into society. I guess in a way he visually portrays what many people have felt at least once in their lives – would it feel like to never be noticed by other people or worse to simply not exist at all.
Mr Bolin told his story to the UK’s Telegraph and which he highlights. “I experienced the dark side of society, without social relations, and had a feeling that no one cared about me, I felt myself unnecessary in this world.” Apparently his art studio was also shut down by the government a few years back which really just lead to him adding to his artwork.
Well Mr Bolin, what started off as a simple way to blend in has certainly got a lot of people looking your way now. And hopefully it will bring you a bit more happiness too.
